Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication
General sheet metal fabrication for HVAC and building construction applications. Plenums, enclosures, transitions, curb adapters, equipment supports, and specialty components — custom-built in our Brooklyn shop to your exact specifications.
Custom Fabrication Beyond Standard Ductwork
Not every sheet metal component on a job site is standard ductwork. Plenums, mixing boxes, curb adapters, equipment enclosures, drip pans, and specialty transitions all require custom fabrication from a shop that understands both mechanical systems and construction applications.
At Metal Men Mechanical, our custom sheet metal fabrication capabilities extend well beyond standard HVAC ductwork. We produce the one-off and specialty items that contractors need to complete their installations — the components that cannot be ordered from a catalog.
HVAC Specialty Components
Our HVAC specialty fabrication covers plenums for air handling units and fan coil units, mixing boxes and volume control enclosures, equipment curb adapters for rooftop unit installations, fresh air intakes and exhaust louver connections, duct silencer housings, and filter rack enclosures.
Each component is fabricated to your submitted dimensions using the material and gauge specified for the application. We work from your drawings or field measurements to produce components that fit precisely in the intended location.
Building Construction Sheet Metal
Beyond HVAC components, we fabricate sheet metal items for general building construction. Equipment enclosures and housings, drip pans and condensate trays, pipe and conduit covers, access panels and doors, wall and ceiling chases, and equipment support platforms are all within our fabrication capability.
Contractors across multiple trades rely on our custom fabrication when they need precision sheet metal components that are not available as stock items. Whether the application is mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or general construction, we can fabricate the sheet metal component you need.
From Field Measurements to Finished Product
Custom fabrication often starts with field conditions that do not match original drawings. Existing buildings, renovation projects, and as-built conditions frequently require sheet metal components that must be fabricated to match actual field dimensions rather than design drawings.
We work from field measurements provided by your crew, sketches with critical dimensions, or photographs with annotated measurements. Our team can interpret field conditions and produce components that account for the realities of construction in existing NYC buildings where nothing is perfectly square or plumb.
Material Capabilities and Processing
Our fabrication shop processes a wide range of sheet metals including galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel (black iron), and copper. Standard processing capabilities include shearing, braking, rolling, punching, plasma cutting, welding (MIG, TIG, and spot), and forming.
For projects requiring specific material properties — corrosion resistance, food-grade surfaces, high-temperature ratings, or architectural finishes — we select and source appropriate materials to meet the application requirements. Our team can advise on material selection when specifications are not clear or when value engineering options are available.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you fabricate custom sheet metal components from field measurements?
Yes. We regularly fabricate from field measurements, sketches, and annotated photographs. Our team can interpret field conditions and produce components that fit actual as-built dimensions.
What types of welding do you offer?
We perform MIG, TIG, and spot welding in our Brooklyn shop. Material type and application determine which welding process is used. TIG welding is standard for stainless steel and architectural-quality work.
Do you fabricate one-off items or only production runs?
We fabricate both. Single custom pieces and small-quantity specialty items are a significant part of our business. We understand that contractors often need just one specific component to complete an installation.
Can you work with copper sheet metal?
Yes. We process copper sheet for architectural applications, flashing details, and specialty components. Copper requires specific handling and fabrication techniques that our team is experienced with.
What is the maximum sheet metal thickness you can work with?
We process sheet metal up to 10-gauge (0.135 inches) on standard equipment. Heavier gauge materials may be accommodated depending on the specific forming requirements. Contact us to discuss your project.
